Best time to travel to Timbuktu

My partner and I had planned to travel to Timbuktu on motorbikes in Oct/Nov this year but had to cancel it due to family illness. We were hoping to go again early spring but not sure if this is the best time to travel through Morocco, Mauritania and Mali in terms of weather. Obviously the recent security threats and kidnappings are a concern too. We want to spend some time in Morocco, so don't want to hit snow. Not sure whether to head straight down the coastal road and into Mali/ Mauritania first and spend more time in Morocco on way back riding in the Atlas Is it too hot in Mali/ Mauritania March/April? Any one visited at this time or advice on this would be grateful.
Thanks
Jess

It is beastly hot in Mali in March 2009, though out in the desert (Timbuktu) the nights will cool off. For Mauritania in April 2009, I wasn't too uncomfortable at all on the coast, but temperatures were well above 40 in the interior.
