Best road from Mauritania to Mali

Hi,

We are two bikers currently in Rabat organising our Mauritanian visas, due to head south soon.

We are trying to plan ahead and are looking at the best route to take us from Mauritania through to Mali. We're ultimately heading down south to SA.

Can anyone advise on which is the best route to take in terms of road conditions? We're travelling a bit heavy at the moment with spare tyres and don't want to change them this early in the trip. So we are looking to avoid tricky unsealed roads.

Thanks!
Adrian

Hi,

Why do you carry spare tires? 1 Mitas E07 tire took me all the way down to southafrica. There i bought another one wich lasted all the way back to europa.

Just stay on the main road...Nouakchott to Kiffa to Ayoun el Atrous to Nioro. The road is tar with pot holes...very good compared from what you will have in kameroun ;)

Remember that moast of the petrol stations in Mauretania onely have Diesel...

Thanks Tobi,
I actually stumbled across your blog when we were researching our trip. Sounds like you had an amazing time.

Thanks for othe advice on the route, sounds like we should be ok. And thanks for the info about petrol.

We didn't leave the UK with new tyres because we still had some life left in our old ones. We have new TKC80's which don't last as long, so we want to change to them only when our current tyres are finished.

We'll need them for that Camaroon mud!
