Basic Mori Info

As there is no real guidebook or anything that I know of for Mauritania (except LP's minimal effort), I was wondering if anybody can point me towards any good websites.

I have SO II and pistes guides, but looking more for basic country info that you find in guidebooks etc

another backpackers guide

Hi Darrin,

Have you tried the the Rough Guide to West Africa? The 1999 edition had some 60 pages on Mauritania, maybe the 2003 edition has more?
Don't know if the info is accurate, never been in Mauritania, but for the countries I've visited I liked the Rough Guides more than the LPs, and found them more useful...

If you understand German, the Reise Know-How series (Durch Afrika Band I) is also worth a look.

Hi,

Don't know if it is of any interest to you but there's a book with lots of GPS tracks: "Mauritanie au GPS".
You can get it here: http://www.takla-makane.com/pages/livre01.htm

adventures of mauritania

Hi Darrin
A website covering North Africa might be of interest, I found it by doing a search of "adventures of mauritania"

cheers
Eric

I understood the new LonelyP's edition has doubled their info.
We found the french Guide Routarde, Afrique Noir much better (=more usefull) than the old LonelyP.

good luck

Many thanks all, but as I'm in Morocco at the moment, I was kinda hoping somebody had put something useful online - and searching google with an Arabic keyboard and a noisy bunch of students around takes great patience ;-)
