Atlantic Route Fuel

I am planning a trip down to Senegal from Southern France going via the Atlantic route. I will be doing it in a Jeep CJ7 (1982). This is not the ideal 4WD for the job but it is what I have. My mail problem is fuel comsumption. The CJ drinks petrol giving me about 14 mpg or 5km/L with only a 56 Litre tank it works out at a 150 Km range (not much). So the question is what is the logest distance between fuel stops on the Atlantic route (is there a map with thier locations).

Also as I will be needing Jerry Cans to carry extra fuel does anyone know of a storage system for a CJ7. I don't want to take up too much interior space with fuel as there isn't much to begin with.

Hi,

Check Sahara Overland for the "fuel stops"

http://www.sahara-overland.com/routes/atlantic.html

Don't forget that the fuel consumption when driving in dunes/sand will increase a lot (in my 4X4 up to 100 %), as you probably already know.

Also, problems have been reported regarding entering Senegal with an old vehicle (i.e. more than five years).

Regards,

There are new waypoints for fuel stations in Western Sahara south of Boujour (on the Atlantic page, see link above). There are several, though they won't be on any map for a while.
But the longest stretch is same as it always was, NDB to NKT, about 400km.
I make you Jeep's 56L tank x 5kpl to be 280km, so another 3-4 jerries will do.

For storage, buy or make yourself some "low profile" jerry holders to bolt on the outside (as in the book on p.118)

I've uploaded locations of fuel stops here, including GPS coords:
