hello
I have a little question. why do you need that translation?

mark manley 25 Nov 2007 17:03

why translation

you need one to get into Libya, they have been sending back plane loads of people who do not have one

If you are travelling on a British passport you can get a Arabic translation stamped into your passport from the IPS.

If you’re on the road you might try a British embassy.

Be careful about this .. a British friend is going through the same thing for work. Apparently the Libyans are demanding that the notarised translation is actually fastened to the photo/info page and then a stamp across the join. They phoned their British Embassy and found that it would invalidate the passport and causing arrest for fraud/forgery/false identity etc on arrival into the UK.

But apparently in Tripoli people are getting the translation at the British Em assy with a simple stamp template for free without the notarisation.

Sounds like a bureaucratic nightmare!

stamp available in British embassy

I obtained a template stamp for a translation in my passport in the British embassy yesterday and it was free!, I had to find my own translator to fill it in, off to the border today to find out if it works.

Hi,

Would anyone please confirm if this is the stamp that is required by the Libyan authorities?

If so, I am wondering if the Libyans would accept it on a loose page outside the passport?

You can fill it in Arabic on your own using these two websites:
Nastik English-Arabic Dictionary
ICU Transform Demo

The digits are already - surprise, surprise - Arabic !!!
Also, watch the right to left order!

apparently not

My understanding from British Embassy is that the stamp then has to be stamped (I kid you not!) by the stamping agency - in this case the embassy. They are also only authorised to stamp, and then stamp again, British passports.

That's what I understand, but I suspect a lot depends on the width of your smile and the mood of the Immigration guy on the day...

Sam.

Phoned the IPS today and you can't get the stamp in London because its too busy?!?!?!? Its some sort of sick joke, its just a ****ing stamp.

It really is the sort of thing that you hear in 3rd world countries.

No joke. The Canadian Embassy in Cairo took three days to give me the stamp - and that's just for a stamp and the fields filled out in English. Then I had to find a translator to fill in the Arabic part, and the Canadians refuse to stamp the translation to make it official. They claim another stamp is not required, and the guys at the Libyan Embassy agree; but the tour organizer DOES require an official stamp saying it IS a requirement at the border... apparently, the regulations change so much that no one even knows what the current policy is anymore!
