Amguid to Illizi via Erg Tifferine

Has anyone driven the piste that starts in the vicinity of Amguid and then winds its way around the southern end of the Erg Tifferine and to Illizi? This route is part of our plan for next year and I would be grateful for any observations.

Even if you have not driven it, does anyone out there know anything about this piste?

The piste is described (kms, GPS, comments and general route overview) in one of Chris Scott's book updates.

About 2 weeks ago, the Algerian military were not letting vehicles down this route from Amguid. Some bikers have managed to get through though.

Actually I met some French guys on A5 KM330 who nipped past 4 chemins checkpoint by going west along a oued after the first main decent from HbG and then cutting south to the plain, Gara Khan entrance (or on to Amguid region if you want). We'll be trying this in a couple of weeks - or slipping out of BoD after 4 ways

We came out of this region to 4 ways - they werent too chuffed but did not say anything.

Its all bollocks anyway - unless they are closing it to give the contrabanders a fast run.
