Algerian and Libyan borders

Dear fellow travellers!

I drive a yamaha 660 Tenere. In the beginning/ midle of April I will try to cross the Sahara, preferably through Libya and in to Egypt. Are there anybody who knows anything about this bordercrossing, or and can help me arranging visas and guide through Libya to Egypt?

I will be uttermost happy for som help.

Greetings
Haakon

Exclamation route

At the moment, your ONLY route option is Agadez-Algeria-Tunisia-Libya-Egypt.

On a bike it's going to be expensive because you have obligatory guides who will need their own car in Algeria and Libya.

Also, it is nearly all tarmac (perhaps a total of 300km piste from Agadez to Cairo!).

Hello Sam!
So it seems, and your information is highly appreciated. I am currently working on my invitation to Algerie. When it comes to expences, what are we talking about.. 100 euro a day, or what?

I have heard something about a transit visa in Libya. Anybody with presise information about that?

Greetings
Haakon

Usually you don't need an invitation if you use the embassy in Sweden.

Guides

Unless things have changed in the last 10 days, you still require guides in both Algeria and Libya.

I don't know about Algeria, but you categorically need a guide in Libya. The only are in Libya that you don't (as far as I am aware) is Tripoli. Venture out the city and you need a guide.

I looked into this and was quoted £90 per day for a guide with his own car. In addition to this I would have to cover his fuel, food and accomadation costs. This was an initial price and I am sure it can be haggled down, but it was enough to put me off looking at it in further detail.

Cool

Hello AliBaba!
I went to the Algerian Embassy in Stocholm, and they were pretty clear about invitation...

How did you do it?

Anyone with a link to an authorized company.

Cheers
Haakon
