Algeria Visa Process

I'm looking at going through the ordeal of obtaining an Algerian Visa - Agence Tanezrouft look like a good agency to use. I just have a few questions..

How 'hit and miss' is the procedure - i.e. if you have all the correct documents, are you pretty much assured of getting a visa, or do they sometimes just refuse them on no understandable grounds (e.g. Iran, Sudan).

I understand I need a letter from my employer for the embassy. I'm leaving my job right before I leave the country, so what do I do. Shall I make up a letter (do they check?), or could I just show them a good bank balance?

How much do I need to pay upfront (to the agency, not the embassy) - or is this 'negotiable'?

Any help would be most welcome...

Cheers

Dan
