Algeria route advice

Well we made it to Agadez; everything is very quite here with allot of the tourism industry out of work and most hotels shut down.
We are heading to the embassy tomorrow to try to get our visa, hopefully that goes smoothly:
If people could give some recomondations on routes after tamransset it would help:
I was thinking about Tam to Bordj Omar Driss and then east to Ohanet then north to Ghadames where I would enter Tunisia in the south????? Or possible north from Bordj Omar Driss to Hassi Messaoud?????
Rumor has it that Tam to Djanet is not currently possible, as that was my original plan

Also on a seperate note it is no longer possible to get the visa for Niger at the border when coming from Nigeria, you have to get it in Kano, so Chris Scott you should change the info on your website to reflect that.

Well thanks for your info:
Cheers;
Josh

Hello,

>Tam to Bordj Omar Driss
The direct route via Amguid is closed for tourists.

>and then east to Ohanet then north to Ghadames where I would enter Tunisia
Exit at Deb-Deb to Tunisia (Bordj El Kadra) is closed.

>...from Bordj Omar Driss to Hassi Messaoud?
Yes, via Hassi Bel Gebour and the Gassi Touil

>Rumor has it that Tam to Djanet is not currently possible, as that was my original plan
That should still be possible. From Illizi north you will have to drive on tarmac to the Tunisian border at Taleb Larbi (east of El Oued).

You will most probably need an invitation from an Algerian travel agency to obtain visa in Agadez and anyway a guide in the south of Algeria.

Good luck,
Yves

Djanet-In salah

I'm trying to plan a journey (October 2008) : Djanet + Tadrart , Afara , erg Thiodaine , Tefedest , A loop in Adrar Ahnet , In Salah .
If somebody have some infos about what worth a visit in these areas and what detours can be interesting , thanks for your replies (and some pictures , may be ? ) .
Is this route is authorised ( according to new regulations beetween TaM and Djanet ) ?
RR.

Hi,

it is still possible to drive:
>Djanet + Tadrart , Afara , erg Thiodaine , Tefedest , A loop in Adrar Ahnet , In Salah
The restrictions mentioned are not enforced.

The itinerary makes a very nice, varied route for a 14 days or longer desert trip.

Regards, Yves
