Algeria Nov/Dec 2004 Guide Cost Share

A girl friend and I intend to drive through, Algeria, Niger and finally down to Lagos, Nigeria (Tamanrasset – In-Guezzam – Arlit –Agadez – Lagos) accessing Algeria via Tunisia. We are looking for people to share the Guide cost across Algeria. Intended date of arriving the Tunisia - Algerian border (Nefta / El-Oued) is 26th Nov. (The date is flexible by plus a week but not earlier.)

Please Note: I’ll be using a 2-wheel drive car (Peugeot 505), as I hear not all 4x4 drivers are keen on have a 2-wheel drive in their convey, but I doubt this should be much of a problem since at the moment off piste (asphalt road) is officially forbidden.

Finally, just in case I’m unable to make any contacts before leaving, those anyone know if it is advisable to take the risk of hoping to meet other people at the Tunisian side of the Algeria/Tunisia border or on the ferry to share the guide cost.

Try and set up a guide share in advance - hoping to meet others with no guides and wanting to share your dates, route and guide (or vice versa) would be a big gamble.

Tunde , I've tried ( in March 2004 ) to do the same thing .... And I found nobody ( only on or 2 responses and not for the same dates ) .
Another point : Beetween Tam and Arlit ,it is a track ( there is only 80 km of "road" ) but , of course , it is doable with a 505 .
Nice trip !

Chris and roro thanks for your responses,
I’ll make sure all necessary Tour Guide share arrangements are made in advance.

Those anyone know of web sites in Germany or France where I can also post my search?

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
