Algeria by Citroën 2CV

On 1st October 2002 I plan to travel from Brussels to Cape Town, using a Citroën 2CV. Two years ago we did the Atlantic Route, using Renault R4's as desert vehicles and didn't face any serious problems. This year we'd like to see the real sahara and take one of the other routes. Is this feasable with this 600 cc 2-wheel drive? Does any of you have any experience in bringing "ordinary cars" accross? And interesting websites online? Cheers!

Cyril Ribas wrote a book about his expeditions in the Sahara of Mauritania with his 2CV www.takla-makane.com

In the 70's I crossed 8 times the Sahara with a Renault 4 car. The route was Alger, Tamanrasset, Agadez.
I also went to Danet from Illizi, and from Djanet to Tamanrasset.
During the last trip in 1983 we went from the Garet El Djenoun mountain to the Amadror valley, and then to the Telerthebat mountain just with maps and compass, with 2 wheel drive R4. As I can remenber something like 300kms cross country.
This kind of car, 2cv and R4, is very reliable, very simple to fix, provided you're not in a hurry and you don't carry too much weight.
Good luck.
