Algeria

Hi, I have read several items on entering Algeria, but they all appear to be dated.
What is the situation entering Algeria from either Tunisia or Morocco overland? Or, from Spain via the ferry?
Is it just entering Algeria that is the problem, once in can you leave into any of the surrounding countrys?
Also which section of Algeria is volatile, north or south?
Oh, and while we are on the subject, is there any problems transiting Libya?
Would be very grateful for any input. Thanks

We were in Algeria in May and entering the country from Tunisia (taleb larbi) is not problematic but of course the guide is obligatory. Regarding the safety - south is ok and north is supposed to be more tricky.

We haven't cross the algerian - lybian border ... so no info about that

Tomaz

Hi,

Algeria - Morocco is closed in both directions.
Algeria - Libya is closed both ways because of Libyan regulations (Budrina please correct if wrong).

Entry in Oran by ship from Spain is possible.

Since when is a guide obligatory in northern Algeria?

Yves 29 Jul 2007 18:38

Hi,
north of about Ghardaia, El Oued a guide is not obligatory.

yves ... since most of the people travel in southern part I automatically added "obligatory guide" - but you are right there is no obligatory guides in northern part.

Hi,
We enter in January directly to Algier from Marseille without problems (same way back). Problematic are night walks in big towns in north.
In that way you spare at least 2 days (which you will spend if enter for example via Tunisia) and ferry is cheaper.
