"I have heard the group below 5 could buy off the guide situation by paying E 260 for Movement Permission (which can be shared with up to 4 people)."

Does it means , if you are 4 people in 2 cars , you can travel without guide through Lybia after paying 260 euros ?
Are you sure about that ?
I'm planning to go to Niger next October and if it's true the Lybian route is better for me .
Thanks for your reply.

RR .

I wonder if he might mean a transit permit across the north coastal road directly to Egypt (or vv). Otherwise we'd all be doing it!

Does somebody know what is the actual exchange rate for Algerian dinars? Must mony be changed at the border? Do other banks or petrol stations in towns change money?

1.00 EUR Euro = 88.4437 Algerian Dinars
according to currency converter

You should change some currency at the border (100-200 euros, depending on the lenght of your stay) and keep the receipt until your exit: that's what you're officially supposed to do. In my experience they never ask to see this receipt upon exiting the country. Change the rest anywhere (don't ask the policemen). If I remember correctly the gain is some 10-20%, not sooo much in any case.

Hi.

Just to correct the Libya 'movement permision' info.
I was missinformed by a biker friend. My Libyan agent told me that You can get the permission for a group of bikers, cars do indeed need a guide. Although we were told we need it only bellow Ghadames. We are meeting out guide on the border for two week trip down South. He then leaves us at Ghadames for a week of guide free travel around the Mediterian and meets us at border again. Which I guess confirms what Chris wrote.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
