Sudan and ethiopia visas?

Dear friends...

Me and my girlfriend are starting a trip down the east africa soon... Last two weeks i've been unsuccesfuly trying to get in touch with sudan embassy in Cairo or ethiopian embassy in cairo or khartum...
And all the info about that here is few years old...
Does somebody knows is It possible to get those visas on the go... On the border or in the country before...
We are holding croatian passports...

Btw if you know some good page/blog of biking down the eastern route, can you let me know... Theres lot of great info scattered on this site, but i Think (though cant find) that such a big and classic overland routes maybe deserve a special chapter...

Thanks alot!

I have not seen any very recent postings but it used to be easy and straightforward to obtain a Sudanese visa in Aswan:

Visas.

Hi this info is about six weeks old. I obtained a Sudanese visa in Aswan for $50 (30 days )no LOI required, copy of passport and two photos. Don't bother trying to get it in Cairo as it costs $100 there.
Ethiopian visa obtained in Khartoum. Two photos one form copy of passport and $20. No LOI required. ( 90 days). Friendly staff and a photo place on site. Embassy is near the Khartoum yha youth hostel.
Be aware of pickpockets in Aswan although they are pretty useless to be honest. I am a u.k citizen, but there were many other nationalities there and no-one had a problem. Get to the ethiopian embassy early as it is very busy.

Thanx for replies, guys!
That is very helpful...
But i don't know should i risk or not... Ethiopian embassy in Rome (delegated for croatia) says that we are obliged to get visa here, not in Sudan or Egypt...

Can you please tell me how much time does it take to get a Ethiopian visa in Khartoum, and Sudanese visa in Cairo / Aswan?

Thanx a lot!

d.

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
