African Virgin

I've finally had enough of the 9-5 and I'm looking into fulfilling a long held ambition of riding down through Africa to Cape Town around Novemeber. I've read AMH and Lonely Planet's Africa guide (and bought a Michelin 953), but wanted some personal advice.
Is this journey a realistic expectation, a suicidal undertaking, or even possible at this time? Any advice greatly appreciated.

I think is quite realistic, but my mom thinks is completely suicidal...

In the right seasons and with a flexible attitude it is quite possible, just bring snow chains and crampons for the steep learning curves ;-))
