Accommodation in Morocco...

HI guys ..

First post for a while, no excuse I know apart from the fact that I've been nowhere interesting..!

Anyway, I'm looking at another jolly through Maroc next spring, but will be aiming to stay in hotels rather than camping, and budget hotels at that!

I know that Tim has posted in the past about hotels, but I'm damned if I can find it. Anyway, I wonder if there's any mileage in starting a sticky containing details of bike-friendly hotels or auberges...?

In the meantime, any suggestions anywhere in Maroc will be gratefully received.

Cheers

of what, hotels?

Most hotels are biker friendly. Check out the knowledgebase in my signature.

What about staying with people at their homes?
Is it easy?, is it possible?, is it recomended...?
Paying a price of course
I did it in Central America but, Morocco?

In the countryside there is a tradition of hospitality to travellers. I often travel alone and it is commonplace to be asked to drink tea, take some food. I've stayed with locals both when biking and when trekking. The problem for most people would be language; not many country people speak European languages, so it's either daarija, one of the berber dialects, or mime.

In the cities it is a different story, ordinary Moroccan city dwellers are very conservative about relationships and you would not get an invite--at least not from the type of Moroccan you would like to meet! I'm studying in Fez at the moment and some of the students have taken up the option of 'home stays' but as a student this means having to put up with very high noise levels and a total lack of personal space and privacy.

Stick with hotels and auberges, it's much easier. ;)
