Where to go from Costa Rica
I have ridden my 1100GS from oakland, ca to Costa Rica via Baja and mex 200. I am staying here for a while, but I will have about 2 months of down time around march/april, and I am wondering where to go. I could go north on the caribean side and see the Yucatan, which I missed, and then continue through the US via texas and back to the SF bay area, or I could head to South America, or I would like to take a boat to Cuba and then to Florida. Is that possible? What would anyone recommend with this time frame in mind?

I know of no ferry from cuba to florida.
The importation of cuban cigars into the U.S. is a federal offence. It is against U.S. law for you, as an american citizen, to enter cuba without special permission from your government. Aside from these trivial items it sounds like a great plan. Rick Sorry for spoiling your fun gringo but really picking on the innocent?

Yes, Cuba can be done but....
In the past you could fly from Juan Santamaria airport in San Jose to Havana. You paid a 50 dollar "entrada", cash on the line and the Cubanos didn't stamp your passaporte entering or leaving. They just wanted the cash and they knew you didn't want the stamp. One hand washing the other so to speak. You could check out yachts in Puterarenas and Puerto Limon. You may get lucky and find some yachty heading that way willing to take you for work or hire. Your bike will be an issue of course, leaving Costa Rica and arriving in Cuba. There is no commercial "ferry" service at the present time between the two countries. The cigar thing does happen. I would not advise it. Personel use Cubans are usually not frowned upon. A boatload however will guarantee you a pair of the latest chrome plated police wrist jewelery and "three hots and a cot" at the local Hilton "Gated" hotel. Good luck.

I don't have current info, but understand a foreigner's temporary and/or permanent vehicle importation fees for Cuba are astronomical.
