Western Sahara...Any good??

In the early stages of planning a trip to Morocco. Hope to get down as far as Western Sahara to see some "proper desert"

Is it worth it??? Anyone been??

Thanks

Much of the Sahara is a barren rocky desert referred to as hamada, rather than the ergs (dune seas) that you expect. You will see large areas of hamada in many places in southern Morocco, so there's no need to travel all the way to Western Sahara. The desolate road from Goulimine to Tan Tan is a good example.

If you want ergs, there's a dune system near Merzouga and a smaller one at M'hamid south of Zagora.

See the pic on this link for a good example of hamada vs erg: Image:Erg chebbi cyclists.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
