Western Africa info needed
Planning a trip down the western coast of Africa, two motorcycles and one land rover. I would appreciate all useful info i could get such as: Things we have to visit and see -Hazards- things to do along the way( dive spots, and other activities.

Please read my blog, bamakobyvespa.no and visit my youtube channel - there are some particularily good videos there. There is also a facebook fanpage. There may also be a production on the travel channel this fall - but not sure yet.
In short, we were three guys that participated in the two week, 9000 km, Budapest to Bamako Enduro Rally 2012 (Destination Bissau)... on three classical Vespa Scooters, against 300 other contenders - most which drove/rode souped up SUVs, ATVs and Enduro bikes. A lot of it was on pistes and off road. You can, if you'd like, ride on good tarmac all the way to Dakar, except for a 4 km strip of no mans land on the border between Mauritania and Western Sahara/Morocco (Do what we should have done, wait for a large truck and follow them, they know where they are going, and you won't get stuck and burn a clutch like we did). It is very recent (February 2012), and I still have a few recap updates to do on the blog (updating continuously), but all the entries for when I was on the road is there. |

Spent 5 weeks driving Burkina Faso - Mali - Senegal last year mapping national parks.

I try to collect all "brand new" blogs, because of the visa and security situation, because this informations are so fast outdated.
What worked last year, may not work this year. All Blogs from people who are currently on the west, or have finished at 2012. http://transafrica2012.blogspot.de Gerade Unterwegs... Just the way ... But this may dont help to find the best spots somewhere, but helps you maybe otherwise bier I will watch this thread too, because i`m interested in proven "have to seen" spots, who dont are covered in travelbooks. |
Angola and beyond
any news about problems with visa for Angola. We are planning to leave in 2 weeks, going towards Morocco ............

Motorbike donation to an African Charity
RUDEC is a Cameroonian registered nonprofit that is striving to empower low income communities with medical, educational, job creation and social support. The programs help people help themselves become healthier, better informed and involved in their communities. If awarded, the motorclyce would benefit up to 25053 people in a year (10053 are children) in isolated, rural Bamenda Highlands area of North West Cameroon. A handful of RUDEC staff along with volunteers from Europe and the U.S., lead health promotion initiatives (especially malaria and HIV/AIDS), ensure basic health needs and education for 53 destitute orphaned children, and teach environmentally friendly ways of producing food and earning income to villagers. Currently medicine, animal feed, crops, building materials and volunteers are transported by trekking up to three hours one way or by unreliable and hired motorbikes or taxis traveling on undeveloped roads. A motorbike would hired transport costs and increase the amount and frequency of humanitarian aid that can be delivered to the villagers. The Motorbike will help generate income for subsistence living villagers by carrying products for sale out to markets in cities. And most importantly, save lives by carrying people to the hospital in need of treatment or emergency care.
We wish to have contacts with people from all parts of the world who would like to drive their motorbike up to Cameroon and donate it for charity work and fly back from Cameroon. Your support and family support will be a big boost to our community work. Thanks |
