Plan change, now I need a Carnet

Ok, another Carnet question. I've been searching for days for the answers possibly already posted somewhere to no avail. :confused1:

I'm a first timer to forums, but have been riding through Europe for 4 years (wish I knew about HUBB back then), firstly on a BMW F650 and now on my Honda Africa, dream come true, Twin .

So my trip is basically from Germany through the ex USSR or gus states as they call it germany. I don't plan much and I hate paperwork. Have been getting visas at borders (except Russia) and now in Georgia, have run out of summer, so have decided to do what birds do, and head south for the winter, with possibilities and thoughts of work in Thailand.

So 3 questions-

Does anyone know where I can get appropriate tyres in Baku? My german autobahn tyres aren't cutting the mustard as it is in Georgia, let alone thoughts of Turkmenistan and Iran etc.

Has anyone actually obtained a visa for Turkmenistan at the border or in Baku? (Aussie and pommie UK passport)

and

How (in Georgia or Azerbaijan) am I gonna get either a carnet or a way to pass from Turkmenistan to Iran and on to India through Pakistan?

I have read that Iran can be arranged at the border, and that has been confirmed by the Iranian embassy here in Tbilisi, but that still leaves me with Pakistan and India!

Any tips?

Good News

The good news is that you have had 35 hits on your question.

The bad news is that only ive replied and i have no idea!!!!

If it helps.. i don't think tyres are used for cutting mustard.

I'll catch up with you in India in Dec. Give us a yell if you need anything from home. G

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
