Washington to Argentina summer adventure!
 

Hey everyone! I'll be heading out on a lengthy motorcycle adventure come June 20th of this year. My route is yet to be decided, but if anyone would like to travel with me, meet up, or would like to ship their bike back with me from Ushuaia or Buenos Aires, or wherever let me know! I'll be going solo, I'm 22 years old, and really don't have much of a plan for my route yet. I need to be home before Oct. 1st. Other than that, I'm open to anyone elses plans!

This trip I'm doing will be in collaboration with a local non profit organization out of Vancouver BC. I have a website (Awayandfarremoved.com), but it's still under construction.

First thing you'll want to do is distinguish between state and District of Columbia. Most people, especially non-US people, will assume D.C. I know that because I'm constantly explaining that I come from the state.

Second thing you want to take care of is your schedule. Specifically, you might not enjoy riding that far in just three months, depending on everything.

You mention possibly shipping your bike back from Ushuaia. It is important to remember that the seasons are reversed in the southern hemisphere. A tad chilly in the southern Argentine pampas at that time of year. Probably no big deal for a Minnesotan, but it will be a winter vacation in Ushuaia.
You will have a great time no matter where you go

Good for Andean riding
 

Those are the best months for riding in the Andes (at least until you get into Chile and Argentina). Know that Route 40 is impossible until at least September. The winds and the cold!

I did same route last year and was in argentina in june/july and must say that I was hoping also to make ushuaia but the temperature on the road was not great for riding!! I gave up and headed from mendoza to buenos aires and was frozen and miserable for the whole ride!!! I had another friend who made it to ushuaia by may and was having to stop every half hour to scrape the mud from his wheel arches cos the roads were so bad. I'm not sure how it would be around august or september but I presume it wouldn't be ideal riding, best to check with other rider who've done it at that time, in july around mendoza I was having to defrost myself and the bike every morning before riding!! I think that further south especially closer to ushuaia it may be impossible..

If you got some heated gear(which you should for a trip like that)running through the Andes and the cold bits in Patagonia shouldn't be a problem.
You will be pressed for time. You need to allow plenty of time for the really cool bits through Peru and down in southern Chile. You can legitimately sell your bike in Punta Arenas (free port) which might be more viable than shipping it back.

I am doing the same route but plan on leaving, May 22 from Montana down to Argentina. I also neeed to be back by Oct 1. for grad school at UND.

Not sure how set your time frame is but as mentioned above your time frame may present some chalanges. If there is a norm for the trip it is to cross into Mexico in September and have Christmas at fin del mundo. Four months is a good trip but you will be moving most days, six month would be much better.
