Visa info Azerbaijan

Hi All,

Am wondering if anyone has any recent experience obtaining a visa for Azerbaijan.

My girlfriend and I are leaving the UK 7 May going east via Balkans and the 'stans. All visas for the 'stans are under control but the one that's really getting under my skin is the Azerbaijan visa.

Last year they had a transit visa which was valid for 5 days and cost £5 but now they've introduced new visas and it seems the only one they have now requires LOI and can only be applied for at a visa service. Total cost £42 (LOI) + £14 visa + £60 (visa service) = £116 (just to prove I can use a calculator). We only want to pass through to catch the ferry to Aktau, KZ from Baku and that's an astronomical amount! :censored:

Anyone been through there recently? Do I just mop up my spilled milk and cop the £116 or does someone know if the transit visa is still possible in other countries i.e. Turkey.

For information purposes, I'm an aussie living in London (with every other aussie)

Cheers all, would love to catch up with some people on the road

Merhaba,

For Turkey,:Beach:
You will buy your visa at the bordergate. It will be multiple for 90 days against
60 usd. or 45 euros.(AUS)

For the bike, you have to buy Turkish Traffic Insurance if your green card doesn't cover Turkey..Tell it is a motosiklet not to pay more..Price 40-50 Turkish Lira for 3 months..

Turkmen ferry never recommended..If you are lucky enough, you can take it and travel among train wagons ...Azerbayjan side will let you free the first day your Turkmen visa starts...

1-But through Mashad-Iran to Turkmenistan destination is confirmed and approved several times..
2-Second choice is Turkey,Georgia,Armenia then Iran if you like to share narrow roads with crazy truck drivers...
3-Third choice georgia,russia then stans..

Probably you will meet several bikers on the road at the same destination with you.I always help them on facebook to get in touch with eachother while they are on the road..There are several places where bikers at the same destination meet eachother, such as HUB threads, Doug's camp in Bulgaria...

tıps..:
1-Gas(benzin) is most expensive in my country.(second highest price in europe after Norway) .So we started upgrading to cyclingjeiger
2-Be careful about your visa period for Turkmenistan..Sometimes given 5 days...

Wish you happy,safe,lucky trips.bier

Many thanks for taking the time to reply, and cheers for the tips on Turkey Mehmet, very useful. I think we'll stick to our planned route through Georgia --> Azerbaijan, as much as I would love to go through Iran the girly has a different view.

I think we'll just go through the official channels here before we leave for piece of mind...the process and success rates seem a bit up and down elsewhere

Hope to see you on the road Mark, keep an eye out for a Tiger 800xc bier

Thanks for all the effort you've gone to Mehmet that's great. We submitted our passports for the LOI & visa because we weren't sure if the transit visa still existed. I'll mention that info to others though thank you

Hi,

Have you an update on this? We are looking into the Azerbaijan visa at the moment. Thinking about getting it in Georgia as we heard that no LOI or any other stuff is required.

We received the visa in the UK with an LOI. Apparently we could have got a transit visa if we applied for it in our home country (Australia).

Sorry, I don't know if an LOI is required if you apply in Georgia. Sorry I can't be more help than that.
