just looking for advice on best possible route so i will only have to air freight my bike once, i have been to bali and thailand twice and i know its not possible to travel through burma was thinking australia and air freight bike to madras india r katmandu can head all the way to france for a ferry to ireland without having to air freight the bike all going well,any advice on border crossing points and general info would be greatly appreciated well

I can almost guarantee, that entering India by shipping the vehicle in will be a troublesome experience! I´d try Katmandoo, a lot of travellers seem to go that way, and many have given positive feedback.

Me, on a trip like this, I would 100% certainly NOT miss Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. Darwin to East Timor to Indo, and then work your way up... sure, you would still need to freight the bike onwards from Bangkok, for example, but I would bear that hassle to get to experience those countries!

But would be helpful to know, when you plan to start off & how much time you have, etc.

Yes,Katmandu will be the best point to start the second leg to Europe through
India,Pakistan,İran,Our Club,Greece and so on.Eagle wings there will be a good solution for transporting..

thanks for the tip currently tryin to sell my camper get my bike gear sent here to oz and buy a bike probably a dr650 because of reliability ease of maintenance and its cheap bikes are bit more expensive here in wa.all going well i'll be leaving here with a preped bike end of sept,it's just about when wet season hits here.time is not a problem only how long my money will last.as for the route asia seems most popular route for shipping to katmandu.seen on motomonkey her bike was shipped to korea on to russia sounds expensive but good way of avoiding pakastain.which is the one place that is worrying me a bit??but up for the challenge either way.

really interesting reading this, as a mate and i are planning on a similar ride at the start of 2013. for those who have done similar, is it possible to go from laos into china and around burma to get to india? we are trying to use as little sea/air transport as possible.

From what I´ve read here on this forum (this same thing gets asked about every two weeks): China should not be impossible, but it´s NOT easy. You require an approved guide to meet you at the border & travel with you. So in short, you´d need to start arranging it months in advance of your crossing – and be prepared to pay VERY big time. Also probably wise to think about the winter months on that route, as you´d go to some very high altitudes.

Fact is, that China and Burma remain the two very big stumbling blocks on the overland route between Europe & Southeast Asia.
