UK to Cape Town

I am planning an overland trip on a Ural to Cape Town. I am going to leave the end of September. This is the route I have tentively settled on: London, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria, Israel, Egypt, The Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana, and South Africa. The first part of the trip through Turkey I have done before. After that it will all be new. If anyone has any ideas, experience, or suggestion, please let me know. I am trying to learn as much as possible as I can before I leave. I have read the post and many books and articles but I would like to hear some first hand experiences from people who have traveled these areas.

Thanks

James

Hopefully you'll take all the critical Ural parts with you?

I'll keep my fingers crossed - travelling long distance with Ural on remote areas is a real mechanical challange i think, indeed, should be lot of adventure indeed http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/smile.gif.

Good luck, Margus

If you've been to Israel, forget about going to Sudan. Try to get your Sudan Visa as soon as possable anyway.

Thats the same route I did in 2002/03 on an oldish G/S, shouldn't have any problems on a Ural but maybe Sudan and a US passport won't get along too well though I met an Isreali travelling on a US passport in Syria. If you want any specific info mail me. Regards Chris

Hi we are planning to do a very similar route next in 06 about the same time of year. I would be very interested to hear about the weather conditions you will encounter. E.g. Heat in Egypt/Sudan and rainy season in Ethiopia. We have concerns about both these at would love to hear from someone whos done it.
We wish you a safe and memorable adventure.
