uk to south africa route advice please
 

Hi Guys,

I am currently planning on charity cape to cape trip in 2011 and then probably onward to sydney. i'm a bit worried about travel to south africa and would like some advice on the best route to and from the southern cape if possible please? i rode my bike to the north cape in 2009 and that was simple and i drove to istanbul last year in a car which was easy but the south cape is a bit further afield.

Also, It will be in a RWD car, not 4x4.

If you take the Eastern route, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Namibia to South Africa you shouldn't have too many problems. I believe the road from Wadi Halfa to Dongola is now tarmac just leaving the Moyale to Isiolo road in northern Kenya, this is pretty bad but if you do it during the dry season it shouldn't be too much trouble. One tip is do not overload your car, that is what kills suspension.
