UK to Australia - what will it cost?

I've read a lot of the threads regarding this trip already. Some are quite old so I want to get the latest info about this.
Planning the trip for approx. July 2004. By my calculations I can save £6000 by then. My girlfriend will also be coming on her own bike. Would you say £6000 is enough for 2 people and 2 bikes to get to Australia? We will be camping, making our own food etc. I am guessing the biggest expenses are going to be fuel and shipping for the 2 bikes.

Hi Paul

Sean Kelly is doing this trip as I write - you should be able to find his details by clicking on the travellers' stories link and finding his blog link on the left hand side.

Hope this helps.

I did this trip last summer. Your budget seems reasonable, if you camp and prepare your own food. Expenses: shipping. Consider shipping from Dhaka, Bangladesh, to Bangkok, cheap and no hassle (see entry under "Shipping"). Expensive is shipping from Singapore to Perth or Darwin. Shop around. I shipped from Kuala Lumpur, but paid too much (again: see "Shipping"). If you ship from Sydney to L.A. this will cost you around US$1,800 per bike. But shop around.
