Trip to Urals

Hi guys. Hope this hasnt been covered elsewhere cos I am new here and thought it would be easier just to ask....

I'm looking into visa's at the moment but was wondering, those of you who have been that way. If I decided to ride or drive in late November, or December over to the Urals, what would the roaad be like???

I have a Kawasaki Versys, road only, or Discovery TD5, bit of both

Would it be snowed in ??? Roads driveable ??? How long would it take ???

Any thoughts greatly appreciated .....

Where exactly in the Urals, it covers a pretty huge distance north to south?

Hard to say about road conditions, but I would count on encountering at least some snow/ice. I don't think it would be a great idea on a bike, although I guess possible if you really wanted to and are prepared to ride in the snow.

Temperatures are also difficult to predict, they could be anywhere from about zero to minus twenty celsius, though you'd have to look on the web for more specific info about your destination and points in between.

Looking into going to Tuimazy, North East of Samara. I could fly and train it but would prefer maybe an overland trip.

Never heard of that place. I don't think going on a motorcycle would be a good idea, and going in a car would be boring as hell in my opinion. Up to you of course, maybe someone else will have additional thoughts...

its on the main East West highway of the country. So the road there is always open. But as Motoreiter says, it will be too cold for a motorcycle i reckon, and not very interesting in a car. Its a good 200-300 km west of the Ural mountains, so they wont be an issue.

But its the main highway ... so its like overlanding up the M1 in terms of adventure. If you did decide to put up with the boring drive, it would be about 3 days to drive to Moscow from the UK and 2 more longish days from Moscow to Tuimazy. If you are British, you really want to fit proper Winter tyres to your 4wd.

I would fly and train it personally
