trip to the Nordkapp

I have always wanted to visit the North Cape.I`ve been told it is a bit of an anti climax when you get there but the trip as a whole is fantastic.I ride an MZ 301 saxon fun (the last german 2 stroke with acerbis plastic 40ltr tank and fairing) and have just completed a tour in france.I would like to hear of anyone else`s experiences of the ride to Nordkapp and suggestions as to route, timing of the trip and problems associated with it.Also is 2 stroke oil readily available in Scandinavia?

We loved Norway, and spent 6 weeks going up the west coast. Have a read of our experiences at http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/Norway.htm
Can't help on the oil question, sorry.
The only "problem" would be that it isn't cheap, and definitely go in the middle of summer. There are lunatics that go on a rally there in the winter, but it's a little - like a lot - snowy.

Dear LARGE Person,

I live in Norway. The Nordkapp is like Ushuaia in Argentina. It´s "the end of the road", it´s worth saying you´ve been there. However, it is far from being the best of Norway. The country has a lot more to offer than that, particularly the West Coast and the Lofoten Islands. As Grant says, come in summer, and even then get ready for A LOT OF RAIN, which, combined with the latitude will mean it will be a bit chilly. That is, unless you are lucky and get an exceptional summer. But, since the weather is always "on the move" you will still have a great trip. Fuel is about 1.20 USD a litre (!) and just about everything else is VERY expensive but the good thing is you can camp anywhere for free. So, you can also do it on a budget.

You can get two stroke oil no problem in just about every gas station.

If you come this way, you can contact me if you need a hand. I live in Oslo.

Hi Sarge,
I did this trip about ten years ago and had great fun. It's true that the journey is better than the destination, but isn't that often the case ? The route (there is really only one) takes you across and around countless fjords which are truly awesome. We travelled in June to be at the Nordkapp for midsummer night and had good weather all the way. We camped but also stayed in cabins which you can rent really cheaply all the way up.
Highly recommended trip. :-)

I went to the north cape in the middle of june this year via Sweden and Finland.
Some points to note:
a)Its still bloody cold in June, lots of snow around and some of the smaller roads appear to be only just open.
b)The tunnel to Magaroya (island) costs £6 each way.
c) The Norwiegens, god bless 'em, charge £17.50 to get to the very tip of Nordkapp (we didn't bother)
d)The E6 south of Narvik provides some excellent biking.
e)Be prepared for lots and lots of rain.
f)North Sweden is unbelivanbly boring. Endless straight roads and pine forrests
g)Beware of raindeer, they tend to run accross the road at the last possible moment and the Norweigen goverment take a dim view of you running them over.
h)Be prepared to pay £10 for a burger
i)visit Tromso. The people are incredably friendly and all speak english (as good as me anyway)
j) Buy as much duty free booze as you can carry before you arrive in Scandanavia.

I shall be returning to Norway 2002 if all goes well but shan't visit the North Cape this time. You have to do it once but once is enough

all the best
pete

Hi Large Person

I am a Brit living in Latvia, and may be able to help with information regarding travel to Norway.

Best regards

Hi,
Big fan of 2T MZ and would love to see what yours looks like with a 40L tank. Do you have a website or would you mail some?

Cheers

Steve
