Traveling UK to Lake Baikal

Hi has anyone travelled through Petropavl in Kazakstan on the way to Omsk, can you get a transit visa at the border, how much?

Would be good if you could, but I think you would need a visa before hand. From all accounts the 72 hour rule is no longer!

Hi Paul,
Visa requirements might change overnight, and no one will know about it. To avoid surprises at the border, I would get a Kazak transit visa before leaving home (or in Moscow). Just to be sure, and for peace of mind.
Have a great trip.
Regards, Werner.

....which reminds me. When I travelled through this stretch in 1999 the border guards were more interested in my Belarus transit visa than in my Russian visa. Kazakhstan is part of the "independent republics" like Belarus. So get that visa!

Hi oldbiker
I think you can go from Perm to Ekaterinbrug Tyumen to Omsk and avoid Petropavl, and the Visa issue. Kazak visas are very expensive.

PS Hi Werner I will get back to you about the books soon, just buying visas at the moment!
