Tour of Jordan

Hi Folks, I am in the earliest stages of planning a tour of Jordan on a BMW650GS. Its been a dream of mine for years to do this trip. But I am lost as to where to begin.

I have toured extensively in UK / Europe / USA on road and done a little green-laning but this one is a taxing challenge. Not so much the riding (I think) but the logistics of the trip.

How do I get my bike to Jordan... is it best to overland through eastern Europe (takes too long) or through Tunisia / Egypt (looks like it might be difficult to plan) or is there a ferry from some place in Europe where me and my bike could Ro-Ro to Lebanon or some place like that?

I know its not a very focused question but some broad brush advice and suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi and welcome.

You don't say where you are from, so I assume UK. The directest route would be the ferry to Israel, as long as you are not planning to go to Syria with the same passport. Use the search function and search for "ferry israel". You should find a topic with the relevant info.

Also check out www.grimaldifreightercruises.com.

Forget the Tunisia/Libya/Egypt route.

You don’t need to go through Eastern Europe if you don’t want to. A possible route (from the UK) would be to go down to Ancona (less riding more expensive ferry) or Brindisi (more riding, cheaper ferry) in Italy and catch a ferry to Igoumenitsa in Greece. From Greece, go to Turkey, Syria then Jordan. Lots of nice places on the way if you have the time.

Thanks for the feedback Guys - I did dig-up some of the other comments on the board about the trip - quite a few have done it before. I won't have a month to do it though - 3 weeks max so not sure if its doable considering the number of ferries required and the route through Italy and then Syria etc.

Why not consider the Libya - Egypt route?
