Hi Everybody,


This is will be my first trip on a bike outside of the UK , I've decide it's about time I put the two things I love doing together.

I'm a little daunted but I'm hoping you will be able to give me some good pointers as a starting point.

I'd like to know if there are any places/ roads you recommend in South America as a must see or ride along. Plus anywhere I should stay away from, to give me a starting point to plan my trip.

If I ship a bike over BA and want to leave it in south America for another trip the following year is this possible??

Hi,

Shiping would be more expensive then half of my trip thats why i bought a bike there. You can store bikes up to one year in Uruguay. There are companys who offer that.

To cross the Amazonas was one of the nicest experiences on my trip around southamerica. Brasil is also worth traveling even most people ride along the west coast...

Thanks for the information on the storage thats a great help!!
I've been trying to decide what's best, to buy there or ship a bike over the reason I leaned more towards shipping I could make sure I was happy with the bike & I have a mechanic friend who will show me the ins and outs of how to fix things if anything happens before I go.

Hi,

When i planed my trip i decidet to bay my 125ccm Honda there. Its much cheaper, parts for smal bikes are available everywhere and people know how to fix them if needet.

Thanks for the links that's great! I've not been off this forum since I've joined last week!!

I have just spent most of my night glued to my computer screen, reading your travel blog up to chapter 5...amazing, this has answered some of my thoughts, I have been discussing engine size,125,250,650 & what would be best to use. At home I ride a 400cc bike and this is plenty for me to push about, move fully loaded up. if i drop it I can pick it up on my own, etc...so it's been a topic of conversation on engine size but I think a 125/ 250 would do just fine after reading your blog, just the altitude I guess will slow me down.

Did you carry 2 Jerry cans on you bike,just out of interest i just never saw them on the photos??

I take it that's your bike up for sale on the bike page??

You are crazy...did you realy go through all of the pages??? Well if you still have questions you are more then welcome to ask me or the forum. Thats why the forum is here for :)

I would recomend you to take a 250 as they sell some some cheap Euromot 250 in Chile as well - but it takes one month untill the papers in chile are ready.

Shure the altutude in Bolivia slowed me down a lot but that was part of the fun. While most of the people go bigger and bigger, i wanted to see how traveling is on a bike wich is used by most of the locals in southamerica and it also helped a lot to get onto contact with them. Also for my whole trip i probably payed less then you are going to pay for shiping your bike only :)

I carryed some old plastic canisters to transport Petrol in Bolivia and also used some to take free petrol from Venezuela into Brasil but you dont realy need them. It just gives you a save feeling sometimes ;)

Starting from GT to Boavista in Brazil then down to Manus on the Amazon river. Then load the bike on a river boat for Macapa. Then ride up the east coast of Brazil to French Guiana, to Dutch Guiana and finish in Georgetown Guyana. looking for company.
