Some ferry questions
Hi all
How do I get from Europe to Egypt? I’m presuming that the best option is a ferry from Greece to Alexandria? What do people normally pay for this? Any ideas on who is a reliable operator? Any information in this would be appreciated. Any information on the ferry from between Aswan and Wadi Halfa? I’ve been told that this costs roughly $35 and runs about once a week. Is it easy enough to get your bike onboard? Do you just pitch up and hope for the best? |
No ferries to Egypt any more. You can ride Tr-Syria-Jordan, then ferry, or try the nightmare of shipping. Use the search function for info on the Aqaba ferry.

Ian,
I've been told (and going to try my luck at the same place) that there's a ferry from Cyprus to Egypt. So Italy-> Greece (Ferry) further down through Greece -> ferry to Cyprus and than to Egypt should be an option. I'm going to try this in September. Maybe I'll meet you there? ps. why do you want to take the ferry Aswan-Wadi Halfa? You can also go to Sudan overland, right? |
Hmmm, forget about the Cyprus ferry. Israel-Jordanie war has caused that Cyprus is now full with fugitives. No more ferries going out.
I fear we have the same problem. No way to reach Egypt, other than by air. What do you think, is STARTING in Cape town an option? |
the ferry from Italy to Tunisia, then overland via Libya to Egypt an option?

Last time I checked Sicily was still a part of Italy ;-) - but anyway: AFAIK there is a ferry from Trapani on the eastern side of Sicily going to Tunis.

you can put your bike on a Grimaldi freighter at Limassol and sail to Ashdod, Israel, then cross into Egypt (if thats allowed?)
or if you are really lazy, embark at Salerno in Italy. Info here.......... http://www.grimaldi-freightercruises...medEnglish.pdf |
