I am thinking about Slovenia later this Year,September could be possible. I would be grateful for any information, ie best roads etc etc, places to visit etc etc.Any information would be wellcome, places to stay, cost of accommodation, camping etc etc. The weather I can expect during September.

Thanks

I went there a few years ago in September. The weather was emm HOT :) I didn't camp so I can't comment on that. The hotels were cheap but that may have changed since joining the EU. It was very nice though, you'll enjoy it. I might be going back this year sometime. I believe they're introducing a vignette type thing for riding on their motorways.

Hi Tourman;
Good choice, Slovenia must rank as one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The Triglav National Park is a must, as are Lakes Bled and Bohinj. I've been twice in September, the weather is generally hot and there aren't as many tourists packing the place out as during the high season. Camping Bled is on the lake, it has all the facilities, it costs about £6 per night and they run a discount for bikers to coincide with European Bike Week which is held over the mountain at Faaker See in Austria.

Maribor

I can recommend Maribor - and the Pohorje mountains. Breathtaking roads into fairy tale forests. Since you're going out of season, you can stay in the luxury hotels for incredibly cheap prices. I stayed in the (four star) Bellevue - and got dinner and breakfast AND spa treatments for £40 per night.

There is a fantastic place to eat in the mountains called Gostice Katarina - local, traditional food, at amazing prices.

Follow the road from Maribor along the Drava river towards Dravograd - its like being transported to a magical world of chocolate box cottages and misty mountains.

This is also the wine route. Look up Limbus - there is a restaurant Gostisce Vnukec - who will not only educate and serve you local dishes, but also wine from the region and advise you on which wineries to visit.

At the foot of the Pohorje is a coffee shop, called Kavarna Pohorje - if you love gorgeous GORGEOUS coffee and hot chocolate - you will think you had died and gone to heaven. (Their hot chocolate is so thick, you can almost eat it with a spoon, and they have about 30 varieties!)

Here's some pics I took on my last visit. (which incidentally was September - in my opinion the most beautiful time to visit)

My wife was born in Slovenia. Used to go there two or three times a year. Beautiful place.
