Steve, can't say what late summer might be like but I made the decision to go up to Alaska/Prudhoe Bay in early summer. I got to Prudhoe Bay on June 9th 2006 from Southern California. My thinking was that I might run into a bit of bad weather but that I might NOT run into lots of mosquitoes and motorhomes. :=) Not much bad weather at all although it was raining and snowing on the Haul Road on the way up but dry and nice on the way down. Great trip. Whatever time you decide on, you will enjoy it I am sure.

Historically, there is more rainfall in late summer.

is a go - i think we will start planning for leaving
in early june and we are allowing approx 30 days.

I got to Prudhoe bay on July 4 2005. I had been rained on and snowed on 3 times that day. The snow piled up on the road going over Antigun pass and when I got to Deadhorse the lake was still frozen over. It rained on the way up and on the way back the next day. When it was not raining it would dry up in no time and was just beautiful so I think it was just the luck of the draw. It is a fun trip and watch out for the road when it is raining as it is nasty.
