Scandinavia-Route Suggestions??

Hi,

We start the trip in mid June and the plan is to spend 4 weeks to explore Scandinavia, especially Norway-at least for 2 weeks. We'll be in a rush through the boring continental autobahns, further Sweden, small part of Finland and the all way down from Cape North to Oslo.

So,the main question is....do we missed something especially for Norway?
Please, any suggestions, advice, further route planing, what to do,what not to be missed is greatly apreciated.

Regards,

Simon

All of the fjord country is wonderful, the Mid to Northern areas are particularly nice the more west you are the more dramatic it is generally. In the southern areas you have some dramatic passes and raging rivers and waterfalls between stavanger and the Telemark region. Its worth seeing at least one of the very old stave churches they are nice to see and some of the old towns and fishing villages. The road over to Vik r13 north of Voss is very nice as is the E16 to Laerdal from there take route 5 upto skei nice road.(but take the mountain road from aurland over to Laerdal missing out the monster tunnel.) Even Bergan as a city is well worth a night and a good walk around as its a particularly pretty place. Some of the High parts of the National parks can be very nice if you like lots of open space but for me they lack some of the real drama that you get on the high roads around the fjords which have so much reflection and light bouncing around they really are superb. Gerainger, trollstigen all qouted over and over but they are nice but touristy in June. The Lofoten islands are spectacular and should not be missed and some of the coast road between the fjords and the arctic circle is quite nice but very slow going. Avoid the E6 as much as possible if you can its a bit of a drudge in many places but nice in some places. In the far North to me it gets better east of the turn off to Nordkapp just because the main tourist journey to a large degree stops there and travelling over to Kirkness is a more remote feel overall. The trip down to Finland from Kirkness is again very nice with some great and secluded places on route and it becomes proper wilderness in this remote area - quite a novelty for Europe. Overall though you cant go too wrong with most of your route up through Norway and you will speak to people on route who will tell you different to what I am saying.. Whatever route you take I am sure you will enjoy the area.

If you want to see Sperm whales you can go out of Andesnes on a boat. It's not cheap, NOK 795, but it's a lot cheaper than going to New Zealand!!
