I have not been in these countries with bike, but some comments what I have read from this forum have stated that it is almost impossible (or at least really expensive) to take your bike to these countries.
For China: you need local DL, bike need to be registered to China, you need to leave money bond to the border (value of the bike) and you also need to hire "guide".

I have understood that quite many items are same also in Vietnam?

Hello all,

If you go to terminal 3 at Beijing airport, you ask for Traffic Police.

On proof of your foreign driving licence,
They will give you Chinese licence for as long as your visa lasts.

I live since 5 months in vietnam, and I have not heard any story of people able to make it. You cannot get 2nd hand motor in the country even if it is temporary.

So, it is going to be a tough one. If you know how, please let me know :-)

Illegal

I don't know about Vietnam but for China I have read that it is either with a guide, and a big bag of cash, or illegal (load it on a truck or ride it across by a local with local license plates).

Here's a story about a guy on his honda super cub who crossed the border Laos-China:

Here an extensive blog about crossing into china by bike (little bit outdated):

Enjoy!

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
