Russia Kazakhstan border (Altay Region)
 

Does anyone know whether you can cross from Russia to Kazakstan at a border in the Altay region?

It was couple of years ago that ı passed from Kazakhstan to Russia. It was easy, no problem border from both sides...

i crossed between Rubtsovsk (south of Novosibirsk) in Russia and Semey (before called Semipalatinsk) in Kazakhstan.

things change (bilateral/multilateral border crossings, visas, insurances ...) : check plenty of info/updates on the northern asia forum.

Tom, I understand the border crossing you are refereing to is still closed (accroding to david from stantours) Hope to use it as an alterative to tne main crossing from that vicenent refered to

In 2004 I tried to cross from Kazakhstan to the Altai Republic at the Karazai post. However, at that time this post was closed. I used the border crossing at Rubtsovsk. It took less than an hour and the road between Barnaul (Russia) and Semey (Kazakhstan) is in good condition.
