Ethiopia to Kenya

Dear all

Just about to start the Moyale to Mt Kenya part of East Africa, it looks quite desolate on the map and I was wondering if fuel can be found at Marsabit or Laisamis on route to MT Kenya. Or should I take some extra fuel just incase. Does anybody know how far it is?

Any help as always greatly received

Duncan

Yes, there's fuel in Marsabit, but didn't see any in laisamis. Did the road in June, and there's now tarmac for at least 100 km north of isiolo. Could be more now since they were working on it actively.
It is 500km between Isiolo and Moyale. The road I thought was not too bad, but i can't imagine how it is during the rain season. Long stretch of sand in the north part of the way, and lot of lava rock type of road south of Marsabit if I remember well. Not much traffic, and it looks safe now, you don't get an escort anymore.
You can sleep at Henry's camp in marsabit (south part of town), and at the Jabal-Nur hotel, in Isiolo for less than $5 (you can park inside, which is what you want to do.
