Routes in Africa?
 

The first part of my ´Round-The-World´ travel theme is about to go to print into a magazine (in Finnish language) within just a few days on March 3rd. I´ve made some route maps from Eurasia & Africa, that are meant to give some rough idea about the possible routes (and I will emphasize, that they are nothing more, things can and will change, and everyone must naturally do their own research, before setting off).
　
Routes marked in red should be considered off-limits, for covering their entire length anyway, so more like routes of the past. But thought it still might be nice to mention them, and that who knows they might become do-able again one day. The new country, that´s about to be born in South Sudan, might also be a possibility, but remains to be seen, so I havent mentioned it here.
　
Some countries (like Somalia), I´ve marked as no-go areas, and explosion-symbol in other countries means areas within a country, that it could be advisable to stay out for security reasons.
　
The round bandit-figure is from a board game, that´s very popular here, it´s called "The African Star" (I´ve actually played it a lot as a kid), and when chasing diamonds, hidden on round play pieces, that lay upside down on the board, you might sometimes get this piece instead, and naturally lose all your money!! Here it symbolises AQIM activity in the Sahara, and Arabian Peninsula, and general banditry in eastern Congo. Naturally both of the above are used just as rough examples.
　
Boat symbol in the Mediterranean means a ferryboat, that you & your vehicle can travel with, and another symbol further south a cargo ship, that you usually cannot go with yourself. Plane symbol is for airfreight.
　
Oh yeah, and it´s in Finnish... so ´Lansi-Sahara´ = Western Sahara, ´Norsunluurannikko´ = Ivory Coast, ´Lontoo´ = London, and ´Kapkaupunki´ = Cape Town.
　
I am uncertain, if there is a route from Yemen to East Africa... I think there probably is, but it´s not a regular ´ferry´ as such, more like you go into the harbour, and try to get you & the vehicle into some suitable ship going your way? But maybe I should draw that possibility into the map, too... it is problematic, when you have clear, frequently used overland routes, and then some, that might´ve been used twice in the past 5 years! It would be possible to play with the line thickness (or make a dashed line, for example), but since these are just to give the reader an idea, maybe it´s better to use just one line style for everything.
　
And I´m going to mention, that the current uprisings in the Arabic world haven´t been taken into account here, because they´re too recent, and the outcomes too hard to predict (but they might naturally have a huge impact on the routes in that area).
　
What do you think?? Lots and lots of terrible mistakes all over of course, my ignorance misleading the poor traveller (...and I admit, that I know very little of Africa myself, been only travelling in the southern end, Zambia and south from there, and even that was almost a decade ago!).... so any feedback, tips and suggestions are welcome!
