Poland in May

so I havent been away on the bike for a long time and am getting feed up with France,so have decided to take a trip to Acshwitz, Poland.
My plan was possibly Harwich, Hook of Holand, into Germany, Poland coming back drop into Chez repulic, Bleigum and back to hook of Holand.

Looking at 5 to 6 days, camping were posible, hostel or cheap hotels.

Going as a solo rider, may hook up with others as the week goes on.

Any one who has camped at or near Acshwitz any good camp site info would be most helpfull.

Info riding in that part of the country, or any one intrested in joining.

Look foreward to any info.:scooter:

Auschwitz Adventure Vagabond

If you want to ruff it a bit there are some good hostels in Krakow, good location for a trip to Auschwitz. In fact there's loads of good hostels as you make your way through Europe. And lots of good wild campsites too. Have a look at couch surfer, tent space (on ADVrider) and the Hubb communities. A combination of hostels camping and surfing is the best way to hook up with other bikers/travellers.

Krakow is a great place to head to Aushwitz, and a great place to visit in its own right! I don't know whether you'd consider cheap hotels (or whether you prefer campsites?), but in Krakow I stayed at Club Hotel Atlantic (Stradomska 15). It was a very secure place to leave the bike, it's part of gym so I spent some time in their sauna :innocent:very nice after a day's ride, and very near the centre. Also, in Oswiecim, I stayed at Hotel Oleki, which is literally opposite the entrance to Aushwitz. Very cheap, and they let me leave the bike in their 'garage' overnight; very civilised!

Not sure if it corresponds to your plans, but I personally found southern Czech Republic more to my liking (a little less 'European'). Personal choice, though.

Have a good ride!

The Hotel Galicija in Oswiecim is a really luxurious hotel, pamper yourself and you'll still have change out of £25 for a night.

Poland

Great info, many thanks, will get the map out this weekend and start plotting locations.

I like to do it the old fashion way, lay the map out and plot locations along the way to stay. I quite fancy doing hotels this trip the more I think of it so cheap / mid price on way down and a good one once there for two or three days.

thanks.:scooter:

Poland in general can be rather though to ride in. Mostly because of the heavy trafic. Saw some horrible crashes there. But people are friendly. Southern parts of Poland is really nice tho. The area around Krakow is indeed beautiful! If you´re in that area you should not miss the salt mine in Wieliczka.

Wordpress blog post about Auschwitz and Wieliczka.

Only an hour about east of Auschwitz.

Auschwitz to Wieliczka.

That place just blew my mind. Avoid weekend if you can! Can be crowded! We did Auschwitz/Birkenau and Wieliczka in a day but then we stayed at a hotel just next to the camp so we got up rather early to have enough time to see one of the most horrible places on the planet. It´s just amazing what people can do to other people. Found a place to stay just outside Wieliczka after visiting the salt mine. It was a full day indeed. Had to drink a glas of wine in the evening. Lots and lots of thoughts and emotions......

I've been to Poland a few times. I gave up camping there as the hotels are fairly cheep. Last time I stayed at the Hostel "Kinga" near the Salt Mine.
It's walking distance from the mine and about an hours drive from Auschwitz.
Good clean rooms and great food.

poland is ace

I've been to Poland every year for the past 13years.. accommodation is dead cheap.
Definitely see the salt mine near Krakow.
Then head south maybe to the zakopane area or perhaps. Ustron. Where there is an amazing underground restaurant a few miles up the mountain from the town. All reasonably priced. Good luck.

Hi
am pretty likely to be in that general area around 14/15th May having travelled down from Prague . Was going to get a hotel in Krakow and do the camp as a day trip then move onto Lublin to vist the camp there . If the dates fit then drop me an email on hgpines@hotmail.co.uk and we could meet up in Krakow for a beer and maybe visit the camp together .
