Planning a solo trip TSH to Mongolia 2015

I am in detailed planning for a solo trip next may to Mongolia. Plan is to take the Trans Siberian Highway from Pskov all the way to Ulan-Ude and then down to Mongolia itself

I am guessing that most of the way is Tarmac but what about the road to UB?

Also planning on wild camping as much as possible or tarping behind lorry stops. Yep nuts

Return is via Ufa down to Tbilisi and across Turkey and into Europe.

I have no interest in cities. I do love looking at mountains and forests. So will avoid cities where possible

We've just driven across Russia, entering from Kiev, Ukraine. Drove as far as Ulan Ude and then down i to Mongolia.

There are tarmac roads all the way to UB. The condition of some of the road in Russia is very bad and other stretches are very good. There's a short video clip of one of the rough sections on my blog at this link - [url=http://bermudarover.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=2227&action=edit]Bermuda Rover

Thanks will look at that. I am a little OCD with the planning at the moment.

You can drive from the Western most Russia border all the way to UB on tarmac roads?

That doesn't sound like much fun, I thought it was still rough tracks and some unmade roads.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
