Cyprus-Turkey-Syria-Jordan-Egypt in November 2010

We (4 mates on 4 bikes, KTM, BMW and 2xV-strom) plan a quick round trip from Cyprus to Egypt and back in 8-9 days. Yes, we know it's short, but we have limited time, and a clear goal. We'd like to ride (a lot) and get to Giza (and back). The route take us through North of Cyprus, Turkey, Syria, Jordan into Egypt (same way back).

We've already done CY-TR so that is clear.

However, all tips & tricks related to Syria, Jordan and Egypt border crossings would be highly appreciated. Also cocuments needed (i.e. Carnet), best time to show-up at the crossing, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Another Stromer

here, doing a similar trip, leaving the UK beginning October stopping at Turkey and Egypt. if the times work out, maybe we can ride from Turkey to Egypt together.

What sort of time will you be leaving Turkey, and how many days are you allowing to cross Syria and Jordan?

Cheers.

In 2008 I crossed the TR-SY border at Kilis and it took about 1 hours and 40 minutes with no particular hassle.
Border guards were friendly and after all the paperwork was sorted out, we even had a picture all together and smoke narghilè with them.

Border SY-JOR: it took about two hours, but mostly due to the long lines at offices on Syrian side, Jordanian side is much faster and they are better organized to welcome tourists.
Take care on Syrian roads, they drive in the craziest way I've ever seen, but I must say that nobody ever put me in a real dangerous situation.
Don't drive fast on the Jordanian highway: as it enters small villages, there's some humps (I mean the ones that force vehicles to slow down) that are quite tall and invisible so you can easily damage your shock absorbers...

People are extremely friendly and helpful in both Countries, it's the thing that I miss the most of that trip...

Hi Camel, we are looking for early November (longer days) but we have to have in mind Hajj ("Hajj is expected to fall between November 14-18, 2010."). We are all short of time, so this will be a real blast. From South of Turkey (close to Mersin) where we disembark from ferry all the way to Cairo in 4, maximum 5 days. What are your plans?

The plan

is to leave the UK beginngin of October and dash through eastern europe to reach Turkey in 3-4 days, do the eastern side of the black sea in Turkey in about 5-6 days, then 3-4 days Syria and Jordan.

Once in Egypt the plan is either stay in Sinai, or cross the canal and head south to Hurgada, and ideally come back up via the wetern desert (Oasis) route. this should take the best part of 7 days. However, this depends on the route back to the UK being either ferry from Tunisia to Genova, or from Alex to Venice leaving Lybia out.

Inshalah. and the strom willing

PS. Hajj being in November, I would avoid the area for the whole month. the bus travelers croud the ports for days before and after Hajj.
