Options into Egypt
 

We are in the early planning phases for a trip from UK to South Africa and I need to figure out the various options to get into Egypt with all the political problems in the region. Since we will take the eastern route we will have to pay the crazy Carnet fees for Egypt. So my question is basically, how do I get into Egypt with a 4x4 without taking silly risks or within reasonable time as we do have a schedule we need to try and maintain?

From reading the various post i have gathered that :

1. Tunisia/Libya/Egypt by road but Libya is a no go for now
2. Syria/Israel/Egypt by road, but Syria is also not a very happy place at the moment and from my understanding you don’t want to try and go South with an stamp from Israel your passport (even if I have 2 - 1 x British / 1 x SA?)
3. Venice/Alexandria ferry but Visemar ferry is cancelled for the time being

Any suggestions/ advice appreciated?

Hi Vleis,

I'm afraid the options seem to be

1. Ship to Egypt with all the associated worries and hassle, mostly at the Egyptian port.
2. Drive through Syria and all that entails
3. Go down the West coast instead.

or BUY OUR CAR.

Hopefully in time all 3 of Libya, Syria and the Visemar ferry may resolve themselves, but who knows when.

Sorry that I'm not providing more hope.
