Olomouc to Zakopane (Czech Rep - Poland)

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone know the route from Olomouc (Czech Rep) to Zakopane (Poland)? Googlemaps says it's a 4-hour journey of 181 miles. (It's the route through Bielsko-Biala, Wadowice and Jordanow; it takes E462, E76 to Bielsko-Biala then goes south on the 28 and 47 to Zakopane.)

I'm just planning a route from Prague to Zakopane and don't want to subject my new lady to too long a journey on her first trip on the bike.

The thing is - is this road quite as slow as Googlemaps suggests? Having ridden in eastern Europe before I know it may well be, but wondered if anyone here knows the route.

Cheers!

Hmm, I almost did that journey in reverse with a female pilion 33 years ago (back when the iron curtain still existed) - only thing that stopped me was that it was end October when I left Warszawa and getting pretty chilly.

I rode very near there 2 years back and I believe you'd be very comfortable even with a first time pillion - yes the roads can be a little rough and congested but maintaining an 80kmh average speed should not be difficult to achieve.

In consideration of your pillion just space it out so you do 4 one hour stints with a break every hour or so - have a great ride. :biggrin3:

I would avoid the motorway from Prague to Brno as its pants !! From Olomouc you could cut towards Trechin and then follow the road towards Poprad then cut up to Zakopene . Again avoid any motorway on the Czech side as they are terrible . A bit longer but reasonably scenic :scooter:

Hi Chris,

Thanks for info...

The big issue is traveling time - which would be quickest? And how are they pants?

Hi
Pants in the way that travelling on an 80mph pogo stick would be :( They are basically shagged and concrete unless you spend the whole time in the outside lane , which then makes you a target for the police radars of which there are lots - worse in Slovakia though !! I was last there in May this year - visited Olomouc which was cool and Zakopene which was a tourist trap imho - scenery was very nice though as was the vodka :thumbup1:

Hradec Kralove to Zakopane...

thanks, guys - all useful to know...

kamil,

you say 'go from Prague to Olomouc via Hradec Kralove', but what's the journey from h.k to olomouc like? googlemaps suggests it alone could be over 2 hrs - the entire trip from prague to olomouc should only take around 2 hrs 45.

Hi,

if you will do 130km/hour...trip from PRG to OLO via Brno will take 3hours. If there are any queues you do not have to wait, just go between cars. But the motorway from Jihlava to Brno/about 100km/ is not very nice/ concrete/.
Route via Hradec Kralove is longer, but with motorbike you are much faster then cars/ stick with speed limit when you go through villages/ and you will follow main route E442/35. If you want fastest route take motorway D1 Prague/Brno/Olomouc and speed 150kmh is OK with cops.

And sorry for my english.

Have a good time.
Kamil

Yes, it can take that long. Southern Poland is pretty crowded and many major roads go through cities and villages. For sure it would be better if you entered Poland near Trstena on E77 but you would waste time to get there from Brno. I find it frustrating to drive in a traffic like around Bielsko-Biala but I have no idea if it would be much better in east Chech Rep / western Slovakia.
