Norway/NordKapp

Hi, i'am riding from Portugal to NordKapp in August this year, it is the only month possible for me. I Would like to know if any of you have a personal experience travelling in Scandinavia in August. What concerns me the most is the temperature. The day i start it will we a sun shinig 30 degree (celcius) hot summer day in Portugal. What is it like in Norway/Sweden/Finland ?

Regards,

Jorge Lost Highway

Hi Jorge,

The temp in Scandinavia can vary quite a lot during the summer. We have recently had 30*-C in the shade! Usually it would be around 15-20*C (daytime).
In august I would be prepared for 10*-25* celcius during daytime and around 10* at night when you get farther north. But again, you never know! Snow does fall in the mountains and up north during the summer!

Hi,
I am heading to Nordkapp too this August from Cyprus and back.
Some 14000 kms.
Hope we can meet on the way somewhere !!!
As for the weather nobody can guaranty anything.
In my opinion its a matter of luck because weather changes up there change fast.
Be prepared ......

Re

August is probably the best month to visit Norway when it comes to weather.
Least prone to rain and most stabile weather.
15-25 degrees in Southern part of the country 10-20 in Northern parts. The weather is course nothibg you can guarantee. But you will miss the midnight sun if you come in august.

Enjoy Your trip!

nordkapp

We went on the bike a few years ago. Look at the artic circle on the map. Nordkapp is a lot further north and cold.
But a great trip. Enjoy yourself.

Hi,

I was in Noth Cape last summer but in June. It was very cold there 5°C with the sun... In the south of Norway I have 20 to 25°C.

I don't know how it goes in August, but be prepared to have cold temperature.

Have a nice trip!

Coldest I've ever been on a bike was an hour or two of freezing sea fog on the way back from Nordkapp in September. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if I'd known it was coming, but it just seemed to appear out of nowhere on an otherwise perfectly nice day (i.e., 5C/40F and sunny). There were also fog-colored reindeer wandering across the road at random, and with visibility very poor and me shivering and my visor icing I was altogether miserable for a bit.

And then it was over, and I had sunny weather all the way through Finland until I hit rain in Helsinki. A wonderful area, not to be missed; just be sure to dress right and be prepared for anything.
