Hello

I'm also planning to go to Norway next year, April May, not too far north.

Another bod from a UK forum went, here is his trip report:
Norway from UK, via Denmark - Summer 2009. - ADVrider

landscapes are breathtaking. Can't wait.

Look forward to hopefully sharing any stuff anyone or myself digs up between now and then

I read your plan and want to add some info.
The ferry Gudvangen-Kaupanger-Lærdal is a passengerferry only. The boat looks like a carferry but is reconditioned to passengers only. However there is a campsite and of course parking in Gudvangen if you plan a roundtrip.
The road over the mountain between Gudvangen and Lærdal has it all, my preferably direction is from Lærdal to Gudvangen. This means that you have to take the tunnel twice. Otherwise you have to choose - tunnel or mountain. Spend 15 minutes at Gamle Lærdalsøyri, this is a street or two with the old environment well preserved.
If you don´t have a special reason for driving the Valdresflya, I will recomend Lærdal-Tyinkrysset-Øvre Årdal- Turtagrø(sognefjellet mountain)-Lom.
Øvre Årdal-Turtagrø is a toll road, NOK 70, take a look at Tindevegen.no

Jæren

Hi!
the trip looks great! I'm from Norway myself, doing a trip i SA at the moment. But you should go by my homearea, Jæren, it's amazing! The beaches is the finest, and when your'e coming up to the Egersund area there are some great roads!

Have a good one! and give me a PM if you're going via Jæren!

Thanks again, everyone. I really appreciate all of the advice and the links to other rides.

Tenere89, thanks for the info on the Gudvangen ferry. Luckily, I already changed my mind and decided to do the ferry from Gudvangen to Flam (yeah, I'm a tourist) -- and I made sure to confirm that they'll take the motorcycle on board. From Flam I'll be riding the Aurland road to Laerdal.

I looked at Tindevegen.no. It's gorgeous. I probably won't decide on a route until I leave Laerdal.

Lars, I haven't yet decided how I'll be getting to Kristiansand, but I'm leaning towards the Jaeren route. I'll PM you if I decide to go that way. I hope all is well in SA!
