Romania to India via United Arab Emirates

Hello,

I left my US registered bike in Romania after riding it from Florida. I have a US passport.

For the next couple of month I'll be working Abu Dhabi. While I'm here I'm planning the next phase of my trip. As of now I'd like to continue riding through Turkey, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djabouti, Yemen, Oman, and UAE. Shipping/ferry to India from UAE.

Does anyone see anything wrong with this route?

Thanks for the advice!!!

IIRC, according to various earlier posts there is no shipping directly between the UAE and India that will carry motorcycles; but you are on the ground so you will be able to establish the current situation.

First of all check with the USA embassy in those areas if it safe to travel and visa arrangements and requirements otherwise if you may have problems, there will be no one to help you get out of jail.
Looking at your list I would say that to keep out of Yemen I spent 2 years there and it is lawless with lots of forigner kidnappings going on and it is a a major Al Quida training ground, I got shot at 2 times and just missed 2 IED explosions by minutes you will need a sponsor to get your visa. Egypt is in termoil right now and does not look like calming down for some time. In Sudan and Ethiopia, Djabouti (never been there) there are allways tensions so extra care.
The one thing that you have to consider is that you are an American and therfore many people might want to target you just because of your nationality. The next thing to consider is what is your exit stratergy if you get in trouble with local militia.
Oman and UAE are easy countries to enter and are well worth visiting you can enter on a visitors visa and is valid for 45 days.
Plenty of ships going to India from UAE and Oman so you should be able to get it boxed up and shipped easily enough.

Just do yuur research and check with your embassy for best travel advice but please ask yourself this question - `If I get into trouble do I have the right to expect the military to come and rescue me and put ther lives at risk just so you can a great holiday`

Hi, I don´t know, if you can get a visa for Iran or not with an American passport (or maybe that´s why you´re actually planning such a detour?)... but going thru Egypt etc. to UAE, I would not assume it´s going to be easy either. And I´d probably keep away from Yemen for now. Some of my countrymen were kidnapped in Sanaa just a few weeks ago, remains unclear, who is holding them.

And how about the visa for Pakistan then? If you can get it, then that should probably open the route via the Stans north side of Afghanistan, thru China to North Pakistan, and onwards to India. The China bit isn´t exactly easy or cheap, and some areas in Pakistan are dodgy, but a few travellers go that way each year, so it seems like a do-able way to India. Won´t need to freight the bike on that route either.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
