Myanmar crossing?

Has anyone crossed Myanmar from west to east into Thailand?

On the map it looks like there is a road in from India.
Anyone try it?

Looks like Myanmar requires a CPD so perhaps the actually do let motor vehicles in.

Maybe some have. But I´m pretty certain, that there haven´t been many to succesfully do that with their own foreign vehicles during the past 50 years.

And I seriously doubt that anyone has actually been allowed to cross the entire country by road.

You´re gonna need a special permit - first of many very special permits, I´m afraid - to even enter the border areas (in India).

something here (they were allowed inside from India, went on to Thailand, but werent allowed to ride all the way)

Thanks but I did that already and actually came up with more that your search.
If you enjoy reading lonely planet blablabla fine.
I'm curious exactly what aspect of my OP made you assume I was a complete dumb f*ck?:(

ilesmark 15 Mar 2011 16:23

No offence intended, Bushpilot! bier

I realise you weren't aware of exactly the facts I was aware of ie the French couple I met in 2008 who managed to get their Landrover into Myanmar and so it wouldn't have occurred to you to use the exact search terms I used to find what's already on this site.

bier
No I'm sorry for going off on you. I'd done a couple of google searches and was pestered with tedious lonely planet blabbering.

Actually the I'm feeling lucky click was more interesting with Greg Frazier's article.:thumbup1:

Morale of the story...

beermakes friends.

Can't say the same for Burma though.

This is the article that came up with "feeling lucky"!

Dr Frazier Rides Through Burma - Motorcycle USA

Seems like even once inside the country it's very difficult to move around due to the military. Something that won't likely change in our lifetimes I'm afraid.:(

Don't be too sure that things won't change, given the current uprisings and turmoil in the Arab world, it isn't too much of a stretch to imagine the ex-Soviet strong holds going through some of the same. Who knows, maybe we might be lucky in this life.

Failing that it might be quicker to become a high level diplomat or military personel and be granted permission to bring in your own vehicle... then again maybe it's not such a good idea.:innocent:

That might actually work, seeing as anyone who does manage to get their own vehicle into Myanmar will have to either threaten a diplomatic incident every time they want to fill up at a government filling station or risk ruining their engine on the black-market stuff.
