My Wife and I are going through Mexico at the moment and are travelling down to the bottom on South America, The Guia Roji is the best map for Mexico, It shows most roads including off road. I would suggest a GPS, but it is not a necessity, we do not have one although in saying that we would get one now if it was easy to do so.

Cheers Geoff

I've just got back from doing a N-S-N of the Americas and my experience was that the The Nelles Vertig, I think that is the right spelling or at least good enough for goverment work, series I found overall the best on the market. If you intend to sniff around the back roads the Garmin world Map on a SP III will give you a compass heading and a distance travelled but not much else. A map,a compass and a pointing finger coupled with "donde?" and a lost look usually seems to work but when all else fails burst into tears. Ride Safe, Mike

ITM has good large scale maps.
Most large bookstores carry them.

I used Berndtson & Berndtson maps of Central and South American countries. Easy to read, reasonably accurate, and best of all -- laminated. They took a beating. An ordinary paper map would have been shredded.

If you enter Brazil you can find in larger cities a 100+ page map book called Rodoviario, by Guia Quatro Rodas, best detail available for the enormous nation.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.

You don't have to be a Member to come to an HU meeting, access the website, or ask questions on the HUBB. What you get for your membership contribution is our sincere gratitude, good karma and knowing that you're helping to keep the motorcycle travel dream alive. Contributing Members and Gold Members do get additional features on the HUBB. Here's a list of all the Member benefits on the HUBB.
