Motorcycle route from Belize to Guatemala?

Is there a motorcycle route from Belize to Guatemala? If so what is it? I'd like to visit Tical and then Lake Atitlan.
Thanks, Ness

The 2 main highways in Belize are called the North highway and the West highway by the people in Belize City. The west highway goes to the Guatemalan border. It is paved to the border, then the first 15 (?) miles of GT are dirt. Easily ridden on any bike though. BZ City to Tikal is an easy days ride, even if you start out late with a Belikin (BZ beer) hangover, and get to the border right after a couple of busses. Tikal was a highlight of my trip last fall. If you only make it to one ruin, make it Tikal.

I lived in Belize and Guatemala for about 6 years. If you are riding a dual sport I would definitely want to go up to the Pine Ridge in Belize. Francis Ford Coppala owns the lodge and it is very beatiful up there and a lot cooler tempature also. It is south of the Western Hwy. I believe you turn at Geogetown. There is also a lot of old logging roads in western Belize and in northern Guatemala. You would want to ask the locals about them because the bush grows back very fast. There are some more ruins up north of Tikal that you can get to with a dual sport that not many tourist have ever seen. I worked for a logging company in that area and the road was only passable to 4WD and trucks during the dry season. We got caught back there during a hurricane and it took us a week to get out of there with skidders.

Thanks for the reply...
1) My bike is a BIG cruiser...Honda VTX1800!
2) Do you agree with the previous reply from Andy?
3) I only have enough time for 24 hours in Tikal...then it's off to Lake Atitlan...
What in your opinion is the best route?

Thanks, Ness...from Mexico D.F.
